You know what makes us happy? People enjoying our beers. Especially when those people happen to be reviewers from The Beer Connoisseur. Randy Scorby gave our North State IPA an Exceptional review with an overall rating of 92 back in December. Here’s what he had to say:
The initial sniff grabs the drinker with big tropical fruit hop aroma of pineapple and mango, with a background note of mixed stone fruit. A light floral alcohol note and light bready maltiness chimes in as it warms to support the complex hop character. As you enjoy the aroma, you will note the light amber color, good clarity and a long lasting white head. The hops shift in the flavor, taking on a prominent grapefruit pith and resin character. A light earthiness develops as it warms along with a light bready, nutty maltiness that supports the hop flavor. High hop bitterness and a low alcohol warming emerge mid-palate and linger into a fairly dry finish. This IPA will certainly grab the typical northwest hophead, but will appeal to any IPA lover regardless of where you live.
You can read the full review over at The Beer Connoisseur Magazine, then grab a six pack because you know you’re craving a North State IPA now, aren’t you?
This past holiday season, you may have noticed a couple local celeb mugs on some of our bottles. The Billy and Patrick Double IPA was a partnership with Q97’s (you guessed it) Billy and Patrick and every bottle sold raised funds for Alyssa Araiza Wings of Angels. In the end, we sold 540 bottles and raised over $1,200 and, for that, we owe our loyal beer drinkers (and B&P’s loyal listeners) a huge THANK YOU for your support!
Gotta love a beer that tastes good and does good all in one 22oz package.
Wow, 2016 was a great year for Wildcard. The addition of a second tasting room, more new beers than we can count (we still only have 10 fingers and our boots are on) and the release of the North State IPA in 6-pack cans!!! That was a personal dream come true. After all, we couldn’t live in this beautiful area filled with adventures in the great outdoors and not have beer available in a can!
With the success of the cans we have decided to give the IPA a sibling to hangout with while on the grocers shelf. In April we will be canning our highly crushable Pilsner. I was so excited to get this beer in the can that I committed to doing it even before buying more tanks. Lagers take a long time if you did not know. That is just kinda the way I do things at Wildcard. That did lead to one small problem…
The 22oz bombers are going the way of the Dodo bird. That means that you should be grabbing those bottles of Double Down and Shot in the Dark before they are gone (about the end of March). Oh yeah, March something is happening in March…
Four packs of 16oz cans will be hitting the shelves! We have had so much fun creating new beers that we have decided to put some of them in the can. If you’ve been by either tasting room lately you’ve probably noticed that more than half of the tap line up is an ever-changing selection of beer styles. You can thank our Head Brewer Andy for that. We will be doing extremely small runs of 16oz cans of various specialty brews throughout the year. Be on the lookout and when they are gone, they are gone. Not to be repeated.
So hold onto your coasters. 2017 is going to be a great ride.
This week we’re celebrating our 4th anniversary and we can’t help but look back at the last year and smile at some of the truly great things that have happened for Wildcard since last year’s party. We’ve introduced new beers, garnered new partnerships, and have continued to meet some truly fantastic people through the events we’ve been a part of and the beer lovers who’ve come in to experience the unexpected with us. But, of course, we have to acknowledge the big ones: opening the Tied House, the debut of our 6-pack cans, and expanding Wildcard’s footprint into Southern Oregon.
The date: January 1, 2016. The place: our brand new location in downtown Redding. We couldn’t think of a better way to kick off a new year than with opening the Tied House. Integrating Wildcard into the framework of downtown Redding and offering our guests a second location to enjoy our beers (plus some killer food, with our partnerships with Mary’s Pizza Shack and, now, From the Hearth) has been an honor, a thrill, and a really good time.
Fast forward a few months and what have we got? The debut of our flagship North State IPA in 6-pack cans, which offers a new convenience for our beer-lovers and a really encouraging reason to head out for a lake day (with great beer easily at hand). Since the release of the 6-packs in late July, we have enjoyed seeing how and where our customers have taken them to enjoy.
Finally, with a brand new partnership, Wildcard is now going to be available in Southern Oregon, expanding our reach across the North State and beyond. A pretty great way to top off a fantastic fourth year? We think so.
Again this year, we’re celebrating our anniversary with a big ol’ party at the brewery. Here are the necessary and important details:
When: Friday, November 25, 2016 from 2-9pm
Where: Wildcard Brewery – 9565 Crossroads Drive, Redding
Why: To celebrate four years of brewing great beer in the North State
Cost: Free to attend; beer and food for purchase
More Information: Visit facebook.com/WildcardBrewingCompany
We extend a sincere thank you for your support over the last year and we hope you’ll celebrate with us (along with the Buckhorn Mountain Stompers, who’ll be playing live music from 5-8pm) on Friday – cheers!
1) Are you closing the tap house on Crossroads and moving the brewery?
No, no, and no. The brewery is staying put and we will not change any of the hours at the Crossroads tap room. The Tied House is a second location that will allow for enjoyment of brewery fresh beer on other side of the river.
2) Will there be food at the new location?
Yes, we will have food at the new location but we are leaving it to the local experts in the kitchen and sticking to what we know…beer. We will offer menus from neighboring restaurants and arrange for delivery to your table.
3) Can we fill our growlers at the Tied House?
Yes, bring all your Wildcard growlers and fill’em up!
4) When does the Tied House open?
Best case mid December. Worst case, early February. By worst case we mean the big one rattles California, the building burns to the ground and a plague hits Redding. Can you tell we are pushing to open?
5) Is the beer selection going to be the same?
Yes and No. We will have all of your Wildcard favorites but the additional capacity will allow the brew crew to experiment with many new different styles of beer. Got any suggestions?
6) Will there be TV’s?
Yes, we will have two big screen TV’s to watch your favorite team. Sobbing in your pint not allowed.
7) Will there be a patio?
No patio, however we will have a 14′ wide glass panel roll up door. Accompanying that door will be two Big Ass Fans (seriously that is what they are called). This should give the space a nice open air feel. And the building faces East, a nice plus for afternoon Redding summer sun.
8) Where will I park?
Jeff can’t parallel park to save his life. Our location is an eighth of a mile walk from the parking structure to the Tied House front door. Additional garage directly behind us located off Butte Street under old Dickers building.
9) Are you going to have awesome events at the Tied House like the ones you have had at the brewery?
Ab-so-freaking-luty! We are excited to bring some of the good times that we had at the production brewery downtown including food pairings, dinners, anniversary parties and some new events that will involve the entire downtown.
10) Are you going to feature live music?
Yes, we may occasionally. Who is your favorite local talent?
Wildcard is thrilled to announce the opening of a second tap room in Downtown, Redding. We will be building out a tasting room over the next few months in the old Grey Hound Station on the corner of Pine and Butte Street. The Wildcard “Tied House” will open sometime in late October and feature an expanded selection of craft brews. The new location will feature 12 taps and offer 20oz Pints, sampler flights, growlers to go and a selection of Wildcard 22oz bottles. Visitors will enjoy the same welcoming community pub feel as our current tap room.
